Among the biggest news at the 2014 North American International Auto Show in Detroit this past January was the unveiling of the all-new 2015 Chrysler 200 midsize sedan, available soon here at Perkins Motors in Colorado Springs, Colorado. With a brand new design, impressive powertrain options that include the most powerful engine in its class, the segment’s first nine-speed automatic transmission, and the largest collection of standard and available safety and security features, the 2015 Chrysler 200 is ready to take on the segment.
The all-new five-passenger 2015 Chrysler 200 (MSRP $21,700) will be available in four trim levels: LX, Limited, 200S and 200C. The first thing you’ll notice is the clean, elegant and expressive new look. Designed, engineered and built in Michigan, the 2015 200 wears the “new face of Chrysler.” The headlamps and grille are integrated, and signature light pipe technology (with available full-time LED daytime running lamps) and standard LED taillamps give the 200 an immediately recognizable look. For a darker, more aggressive look, opt for the 200S. Inside, the 200 benefits from high-quality materials, attention to detail and state-of-the-art technology that combine in an inviting cabin that’s unparalleled in the segment.
Motivating the 200 is your choice of two excellent powertrains. The first a 2.4-liter MultiAir®2 Tigershark® inline-four cylinder engine that produces 184 hp and 173 lb/ft of torque through a segment-first nine-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy is EPA-estimated at 35 mpg highway. Those numbers reflect a 13 percent improvement in fuel economy, a six-percent improvement in horsepower and a 10 percent increase in torque over the outgoing four-cylinder.
Also available is the award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, which produces a best-in-class 295 hp and 262 lb/ft of torque. The 2015 200 offers an advanced all-wheel drive system that utilizes a segment-first full disconnecting rear axle. The system helps maximize fuel economy by operating in front-wheel drive mode when all-wheel drive isn’t needed. The nine-speed automatic uses an innovative, center-mounted Rotary E-Shift that is easy to use and also creates more room for storage. Improved torsional stiffness has been achieved through the use of laser-brazed roof welds, and the suspension has been retuned to provide improved driving dynamics and ride comfort. The 200 is the most aerodynamic vehicle in its class, too.
Thoughtful features and advanced technology are hallmarks of the revised 200 interior. The center console has been redesigned to include a USB port, an opening at the rear for easy passing of wires or cables from the front to the back, and sliding cup holders that let you customize the space as you see fit. An available full-color seven-inch customizable LED display provides information like fuel economy, speed, directions (in navigation-equipped models) and more. The 200 is also available with the award-wining Uconnect® 8.4AN infotainment system and a Uconnect® Access system that provides things like movie listings and fuel prices.
The extensive suite of more than 60 safety and security features in the 200 includes segment-exclusives. In addition to the standard Electronic Stability Control, Traction Control, eight advance airbags and antilock brakes, the 200 offers available Adaptive Cruise Control with class-exclusive Stop and Go Functionality that can bring the 200 to a complete stop and then reengage the cruise control when it’s safe to resume. There’s also Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist, to warn drivers of possibly inadvertent lane changes and help move the car back into its lane, and segment-exclusive full-speed Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking that can help slow or even stop the 200 if a collision is imminent. Another feature exclusive to the 200 is the standard Electronic Parking Brake with Safe Hold. The super-strong body of the newest 200 is 60 percent advanced-technology steel, providing a strong safety cage for the best occupant protection possible.
The 2015 Chrysler 200 is a shining example of the “Imported from Detroit” ethos. Chrysler has invested more than one billion dollars in the Sterling Heights Assembly plant that is home to the new 200. The plant now features an all-new, state-of-the-art paint shop and a new robotic body shop that enabled the world-class fit and finish precision of the new 200. These and other new processes reduced the energy required to build the 2015 by 62 percent compared to the previous model.
