As the brand’s flagship, the 2009 BMW 7 Series must meet the very highest expectations. Its engineering must be brilliant, its styling breathtaking, its luxury beyond question and its performance flawless. Everything about the new 7 Series must be ahead of the curve in ways that set new standards and create the next benchmarks. In other words, the 2009 BMW 7 Series must be a magnificent creation that stirs the aspirations of even the most sophisticated and discerning automobile enthusiasts. We are pleased to confirm the 2009 BMW 7 Series is all this and more.
BMW’s Active Steering system (introduced in 2004) now appears in the 7 Series as the Integral Active Steering concept. The system’s intuitive control over both front and rear wheels ensures exceptional stability, control and maneuverability during dynamic driving situations.
The new 7 Series also incorporates BMW’s newest concoction, Driving Dynamics Control, a push-button system that allows the driver to choose between four progressively more dynamic driving programs. Integrating a number of different vehicle systems and components, including shock-absorbers, shift characteristics, steering, traction control and engine response, Driving Dynamics Control ensures a customizable, thoroughly enjoyable driving experience.
To further avance the handling and ride characteristics of the 7 Series, available Active Roll Stabilization (ARS) utilizes electro-hydraulically-actuated anti-rollbars to enhance stiffness and reduce the concept of “body roll” during dynamic cornering, allowing the BMW to truly hug turns like never before.
Evolutionary engine technologies provide the 2009 7 Series with one of the most sophisticated and efficient motors ever offered in a production BMW vehicle. Both U.S. models will be powered by an all-new twin-turbocharged V8 engine. This 4.4-liter V8 power plant features BMW’s High-Precision Direct-Injection, as well as two turbochargers housed within the “valley” between the two cylinder banks. As a result, the V8 is capable of 400 hp over a range from 5,500 to 6,400 rpm, and a robust 450 lb/ft of torque over the most useful
range of 1,750 to 4,500 rpm. Compared to the like-named 750i/Li predecessors’ 4.8-liter naturally aspirated V8’s 360 hp and 360 lb/ft, the new engine represents major progress in performance and efficiency.
With cabin technologies becoming ever more complex, BMW has equipped the 2009 7 Series with the second generation of its iDrive central control system. BMW's updated system is ergonomically friendlier, more functional and intuitive than ever before. Visual prompts and a logical organization in the display result in clear choices within the individual menus. BMW’s newest GPS Navigation system now incorporates bigger, better and substantially more detailed maps, as well as a more logical, more functional destination selection display and process.
The latest computer and engineering technologies have opened new opportunities to improve automotive safety. In the 2009 BMW 7 Series, these advances can be experienced in two such safety systems: Active Blind Spot Detection and BMW Night Vision with Pedestrian Detection.
The newest 7 Series also incorporates a number of active safety features, many of which are exclusive to BMW. The Active Blind Spot Detection system provides real-time warning, through steering wheel vibration and a blinking LED on the side mirror, when a vehicle enters your blind spot, or if changing lanes could potentially result in a collision. The 7 Series also introduces the Head-up Display (HUD), that projects relevant driving information onto the windshield in front of the driver. The HUD is a standalone option on U.S. models.
The 2009 BMW 7 Series also sets new standards for occupant comfort. With its center stack slightly angled toward the driver, the control center promotes the driver’s intuitive mastery of the vehicle. This is always a hallmark of BMW interior design. However, this interior isn’t only for the driver; its concept, layout, technology and design focus equally on the driver’s needs and the passengers’ well being. Four-zone climate control means rear seat passengers can also each set their side of the vehicle to the preferred temperature setting.
For the first time in a BMW, the entire instrument cluster is a high-resolution Black Panel display in which four classic circular instruments are most prominent. Other driving-relevant displays and readouts including GPS Navigation, vehicle-monitoring functions, upcoming service requirements and other information also appear here in their various (and function-related) graphic forms. In “dormant” state, this display is a mostly blank black form defined by its chrome-toned periphery and including only pointer needles, scale markings and the tachometer’s red warning zone within it.
The new 7 Series comes standard with a 40GB hard drive that provides fast access to navigation data and sets aside 13GB for music storage. HD Radio with Multicasting, which BMW pioneered as an automotive audio option, is standard in the new 7 Series. The Rear Entertainment Package adds yet another dimension to rear-seat luxury. A DVD player with color monitors integrated into the front seats’ backrests is controlled from a dedicated remote.
The amazing spectrum of new features, technologies and capabilities offered by the new 7 Series is rounded out by yet another first: the Integrated Owner’s Manual. Analogous to the “Help” functions of today’s computers, BMW now delivers the owner’s manual electronically via iDrive. In just seconds, the user can access information on virtually any detail of the vehicle’s equipment, systems, operation and so forth like a traditional owner’s manual, only better.
Mere words are inadequate to fully describe the delights and discoveries that await your personal introduction to the 2009 BMW 7 Series. We invite you to schedule an appointment for a detailed presentation and test drive.
