Families on the move need a special kind of vehicle. They need something that can keep pace with their busy lives while providing safety and comfort for those long hauls to grandma’s house. Most of all, they need a vehicle that can handle all this while still being affordable to buy and drive. The updated 2012 Honda Pilot is the perfect solution.
For 2012, a new front fascia and grille replace the previous six-sided grille insert with a new horizontal three-bar design. This adds extra definition and style to the front of the Pilot (MSRP $28,470). The revised headlamps feature turn signals that have been moved to an inner position inside the new headlamp assemblies. Depending on trim level choice, there are also new 17-inch and 18-inch wheels.
The interior of the Pilot gets many thoughtful additions as well, to make sure all eight occupants are safe and comfortable. One of the biggest goals for the 2012 model was to reduce noise, vibration and harshness (NVH). The first steps involved revising the insulation materials and using acoustic glass for the windshield. Honda also retuned the suspension components and enhanced sealing for the body seams.
Honda has designed the Pilot to be more than a comfortable mode of transportation. From the ground up, the 2012 Pilot has been created to be as versatile as possible. One of the many smart and convenient features is the lift-up glass hatch on the tailgate. This provides quick and easy access to the items stored in the back without having to fully release the rear gate. Pilot owners will enjoy 18.0 cubic feet of space behind the third row. Maximum cargo capacity is up to 87 cubic feet, and a power tailgate is also available.
With the 60/40-split fold-flat second and third rows, you can haul all the necessary items for the next home renovation, including large items like four-foot wide plywood sheets. For even more space and versatility, there is a 2.8 cubic foot storage well hidden in the cargo area, and there is also a cargo net that can support 20 pounds for the rear storage area. No matter what task you throw at it, the Pilot is ready.
The 2012 Pilot is as safe as it is versatile. Thanks to Honda’s Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure, frontal impact energy is reduced, lessening those dangerous forces before they reach passengers. The Pilot is also equipped with three-row side-curtain airbags, active front-seat head restraints to reduce whiplash injuries, and anti-lock brakes with Electronic Brake Force Distribution and Brake Assist. The Pilot also comes standard with Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®) electronic stability control. No wonder it was named a “2012 Top Safety Pick” by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
Power is generated by a 3.5-liter i-VTEC® V6 engine capable of producing 250 hp and 253 lb/ft of toque through a silky smooth five-speed automatic transmission. Credit Variable Cylinder Management, which shuts down up to half of the V6’s cylinders during cruising for excellent fuel economy of up to 25 highway mpg. Those are impressive numbers from an SUV capable of towing up to 4,500 pounds.
The Honda Pilot is built for families, active individuals and everyone in between. Whether you need to haul your band’s gear to a gig or six kids to Grandma’s for Thanksgiving dinner, the 2012 Honda Pilot has the versatility to handle all of life’s hurdles.
To top it all off, the 2012 Pilot recently earned Cars.com’s "Family Car of the Year" award. Visit our showroom today and experience the spacious, comfortable and versatile 2012 Honda Pilot for yourself.
