his vehicle ideal for long distances, high speeds and offers impressive handling skills.
The 5 Series GT has a spacious cabin and front seats that are lifted nearly two inches higher than those in the BMW 7 Series. Three adult passengers can fit into the back seat comfortably thanks to the car’s spacious interior which is comparable to a 7 Series in terms of legroom and the X5 in terms of headroom. For the first time on any BMW model, a standard double-panel moon roof is introduced.
The rear of the 5 Series GT consists of part trunk and part hatch. Coined by BMW as the ‘bimodal trunk,’ it has a conventional trunk lid and is a full-on hatchback at the same time. Depending upon the need, either "door" can be opened to access the cargo area. For example, one door opens up to what looks like a standard trunk that is closed off from the rest of the cabin. The other release opens up the entire lift-gate, including the trunk lid, which allows access to the rear of the car.
The 5 Series Gran Turismo will be available for purchase in the fall of 2009.
