Saab Now Offers Cross-Wheel-Drive In 2009 9-3 Models

Saab’s cross-wheel-drive (XWD) technology has expanded into most Saab 2009 9-3 models.  Previously introduced on the 2008 Turbo-X and the 9-3 Aero models, the inclement weather savvy XWD is now available in the 9-3 2.0T Sport Sedan and the 9-3 SportCombi.

Earlier generations of the 9-3 line-up offered only front wheel drive, but in keeping with the tradition of excellent safety and drivability under the harshest conditions, Saab is unveiling XWD in the 2009 9-3 line-up.  XWD is an all-wheel-drive system that is capable of sending 100 percent of engine torque to the front or rear wheels when necessary.  By providing pre-emptive engagement of the rear wheels, traction is optimal and instantaneous and Saab XWD is an on-demand system that is activated only when necessary so the impact on fuel economy is minimal.  The all-wheel-drive XWD Aero models also include an electronically controlled rear limited-slip differential (eLSD), which allows variable torque transfer between the rear wheels.

The cutting-edge Saab 9-3 will soon be available at Patrick Saab.  Together, you and your 9-3 Sport Sedan or SportCombi can scoff at the city’s wintery streets.
