A clean-cut departure from the Jaguar S-Type, the 2009 XF is an update of nearly every facet of the archetypal luxury sedan. Despite the overhaul, the all-new XF stays true to the Jaguar cornerstones of elegant, proportionate detailing and has already seen an abundance of accolades.
The XF is slightly taller, wider and longer than the previous S-Type and offers a roomier interior. Of the exterior alterations, the most prominent is the high rear deck lid that makes room for 17.7 cubic feet of storage space. On the other hand, the powertrains are familiar with the 4.2 liter, 300 horsepower V8 or the 420 hp naturally aspirated supercharged edition and the XF can do 0 to 60 mph in 6.3 and 5.2 seconds respectively. Both editions are equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The interior features all the hallmarks of a luxury sedan minus the overload of unnecessary and distracting amenities. The requisite wood trim is offset with more aluminum trim and the gear selector is a big, steel dial knob that rises from the center console upon the drivers touch to the start button. Even more unique is what Jaguar calls the XF’s “handshake,” which consists of revolving air vents when the XF is fired up. Also included are rear screen entertainment systems and an integrated noise reducing wind deflector.
The Jaguar XF is expected to arrive in March 2009 with a base MSRP of $49,200. The XF Supercharged, with a 420 horsepower engine, starts at $63,700.
