Nonprofits Take Notice: Businesses turn to Facebook for word-of-mouth advertising
Its Time for Charities to Focus On Communities Not Just Money
http://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/technolog...
by Jefferson Graham, USA TODAY

Editors Note: People to People Fundraising is the strongest strategy any charity can deploy online. Take notice of this article about how businesses are using one social networking site FACEBOOK, to target their message to those who are eager to hear it.

Exerpt from USA TODAY ARTICLE

Facebook, with 250 million members, has gone beyond being just a place where you can alert friends about the music you're listening to, who you're dating or what movies you like. The social network's expanded Pages feature lets businesses, organizations and public figures in on the action. They can create profiles that let them sign up fans, issue status updates and send messages. Businesses like Baja Sharkeez that cater to young people and big companies like Pizza Hut and Coca-Cola are finding it's profitable to be your Facebook friend.

Give people a new way to donate to your cause

There's a great new way to raise funds for your organization without ever having to ask for cash. A new service from Gazelle, the nation's largest place to trade in used electronics for cash, just announced a new fundraising tool called Gazelle for Good (www.gazelleforgood.com ). Gazelle for Good is a free service that enables you to raise money for your organization by collecting used gadgets, including cell phones, laptops, MP3 players, and more than 20 other categories of electronics that your donors already have, but no longer use.

Raise money by asking your donors to simply open up their drawers and closets instead of their wallets. Here’s how it works:

1. You personalize a gadget drive web page at www.gazelleforgood.com
2. Donors send us used gadgets worth money
3. Gazelle sends the $$ to you or your cause

The average household has more than 25 gadgets. Gazelle for Good can turn those cell phones, laptops, MP3 players, gaming systems, & more into cash to support your cause. Simply visit www.gazelleforgood.com now and begin raising money for your organization.

by Ari Herzog

Editors Note: LinkedIn is one of the most important social networking sites for any professional. Starting with these 12 suggestions you can start to network with other professionals, establish your credentials and expand the power of your voice.

Exerpt from Ari's article.

1.      If you have a LinkedIn profile, please keep it updated

2.      Fill your profile with colorful language, not drab resume-speak

3.      Write in first person, not third

4.      Upload the same photo you use elsewhere online

5.      Join a group (like the P2P group: http://www.linkedin.com/groupInvitation?gid=1451037)

6.      Ask and answer questions

7.      Don’t accept every connection request

8.      Don’t mirror your LinkedIn network with other social networks

9.      Recommend your connections

10.   Ask your connections to recommend you.

11.   Add applications to your profile

12.   Most importantly, be a person, not a robot.
