So What Happens Next?

The Status Of SB 100 After The Hearing

On Friday, April 1, the full House held a second reading on SB 100 with the Local Governments proposed amendments incorporated.  Several amendments offered on the floor were also passed.  Several more amendments were expected to be offered as well as a debate on some of the Local Government’s proposed amendments.  However, before this could happen, there was a motion for the House to adopt the amendments and for the adopted version of SB 100 to return to the Local Government committee for further considerations.

This motion passed, and the Local Government committee will once again review SB 100.  The public outpouring voicing their concerns about selected proposed amendments to SB 100 should be credited for SB 100’s short time on the floor of the House.  We believe that it was effectively communicated to Colorado’s Representatives that their constituents strongly opposed sections of SB 100 and that the bill needs more work.  [Click here to view Orten & Hindman’s Urgent Call to Action.]

Now, the Local Government committee will reevaluate the bill and make changes or add any further amendments deemed appropriate.  This means that changes can be made to the disasterous attorney fees amendment and an amendment limiting association lien rights can still be added.  Once SB 100 clears the committee, it will return to the full House for another hearing and presumably a vote.

At this time, we do not know whether the committee will once again take public testimony on the bill.  As further details and dates become known, Orten & Hindman will be sending out updates with the information.  If anything arises that requires urgent and immediate attention, be assured that another Call to Action will be emailed to alert you.
