Local Leaders Attend Regional "Fly-In"
While we did not find out from him who “Deep Throat” in Watergate was, his depiction of Washington as “an uneasy and ugly place right now” where “friendliness and camaraderie among politicians doesn’t seem to exist,” Ben Bradlee, the legendary retired Executive Editor of the Washington Post, may have best captured the essence of the political environment in our nation’s capital last week during his special appearance at the Watergate Hotel breakfast officially kicking off the Chamber’s 2004 Washington, D.C. Get Out the VOTE
According to the census bureau, there were 130 million registered voters in 2000, of which 14%, almost 19 million, did not vote. 21% of the non-voters said they were too busy, an additional 10% said they were out of town. It is a virtual certainty that many of these busy and or traveling people – probably most of those on travel – were businessmen and women. Business is uniquely positioned to increase that number of busy and traveling non-voters simply by putting access to an absent ballot in their email inbox.
