Thank you for your continued support of VoteSmartFlorida.org. The success of VoteSmartFlorida.org is dependent upon ALL partners actively being involved in the process.

Action Items
For the week of May 24-30, please complete the following item:

1. Please forward the following onto your members and employees: Beware of signing petitions. As the election is drawing closer, more and more signature gatherers are out in public places seeking your signature. VoteSmartFlorida.org believes all signatures should be gathered fairly, honestly and lawfully under Florida’s election laws. Please notify VoteSmartFlorida.org and the Division of Elections if you see a petitioner who breaks them.

If you have questions about this Action Item, please email info@votesmartflorida.org or call 1-888-425-1234.

Campaign Update
The deadline for signature submission for citizen initiatives is nearing, with just over 70 days until the August 3 deadline. As we approach this deadline, it is becoming clearer which initiatives have the chance to make it to the ballot. Attached you will find a spreadsheet, detailing the top 10 initiatives by signatures collected.

Look for this information to soon be added to VoteSmartFlorida.org’s website. You will be able to log on and find up-to-date information regarding the number of signatures collected, fundraising and more.

If the proposed “No Surprises” provision were already in place, we would currently know which proposed amendments we would be seeing on the ballot in November. The “No Surprises” provision will allow for seven months of debate and education surrounding the proposed amendments. The ballot title and summary for the “No Surprises” provision are as follows:

Ballot Title: CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS PROPOSED BY INITIATIVE

Ballot Summary: Proposing amendments to the State Constitution to require the sponsor of a constitutional amendment proposed by citizen initiative to file the initiative petition with the Secretary of State by February 1 of the year of a general election in order to have the measure submitted to the electors for approval or rejection at the following November's general election, and to require the Florida Supreme Court to render an advisory opinion addressing the validity of an initiative petition by April 1 of the year in which the amendment is to be submitted to the electors.
