Jay Galbraith
Executive Director of Development
Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute
I recently returned with my family to the Orlando area and had the privilege to be a member of Leadership Class 61. I entered the program with a desire to learn more about the city and region, and understand how it had changed since the mid-80’s -- when I left for college.
My first impressions were of the strength of leadership being offered by our business community, as well as the extent of important economic and infrastructure assets our region possesses -- assets that communities around the country yearn to build.
Moreover, the Leadership Orlando class connected me with many dynamic and hard working leaders and emerging leaders in our community, people like Jay Leonard of the Doubletree Twin Towers, who is making a payroll, raising children and working to make our community a better place.
We all know the axiom – “if you need something done – ask a busy person.” There have been seven or eight critical business needs that have presented themselves since my “graduation” from Leadership Orlando five months ago, and my ability to call upon my “classmates” to assist has made vital differences enabling positive outcomes.
Finally, my Leadership Orlando experience gave me a front row seat to view our region and the core business, government and education entities that drive our local economy. The value of Leadership Orlando is being able to meet and become friends with a diverse group of community leaders who are working to ensure our economic and community strength well into the next decade.
