On October 7, 2003, the citizens of Orange County will have the opportunity to vote to relieve traffic congestion, enhance mobility and improve pedestrian safety.
This $8.8 billion comprehensive transportation plan called Mobility 20/20 incorporates more than 140 projects throughout Orange County including:
- Widening and improving major roads and highways
- Widening and improving local roads
- Increasing pedestrian safety and intersection improvements
- Planning and developing a rapid transit system
Mobility 20/20 is about much more than just building roads . . . it is about building a future for our children, protecting our environment and managing growth. The plan depends upon a ½ cent local option sales tax which would sunset after 20 years.
Vote YES for Mobility 20/20 because . . .
- This plan will reduce traffic and congestion so we can all spend more time with our family, at work, or just having fun.
- If we don’t do something about congestion now, it will be much more expensive in the future when the problem is even worse. Florida’s population doubled over the past two decades & traffic increased by 150%. Our road system simply hasn’t kept up and must be improved before we’re strangled by traffic & congestion.
- Police, firefighters & emergency personnel urge a yes vote because they know that getting to emergencies just a minute quicker can reduce fatalities by 10 percent.
- This plan will create thousands of new high paying jobs for residents and will be a huge economic boost to the area. Local business will benefit from increased mobility and lower transportation related costs.
- Because tourists & others who live outside Orange County actually create much of our traffic congestion, this plan will make them pay more than half of the taxes while ordinary Orange County residents will pay only 29%.
It is important that we all do our part and vote October 7th. Thank you so much for your time and support.
