ChamberCARE
Program offers options for the uninsured and those who have high deductibles.
It comes as no surprise
that 80 percent of the state's nearly 2 million uninsured Floridians are employed.
Now, the Chamber's member businesses have the opportunity to purchase health
insurance for employees through ChamberCARE,
an insurance-services agency that assists Chamber members with insurance needs.
Termed a mini-medical plan, it is the result of a concerted, coordinated effort
by the Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerce
in conjunction with other members of the Florida Chamber Federation and under
the leadership of the Florida Chamber of Commerce. Mini-med plans now offer
basic care options to many without coverage - and to those who are at the critical
stage of canceling coverage because of the extraordinarily high costs. As financially
and emotionally welcome as this product is, it is not intended to serve as a
replacement for a comprehensive 80/20 type policy. It is not a discount program.
It is, however, a guaranteed issue mini-medical plan which provides a specified
layer of coverage for hospital confinement, emergency care, outpatient physician
visits, and surgical/ anesthesia. Ideally, a mini-medical plan should be backed
by a catastrophic (major medical) policy.
Mini-Med Options
Mini-Med plans are designed with limited coverage to provide families and individuals
with flexible, yet affordable coverage. Mini-Meds typically assist in offsetting
costs and provide limited coverage for both inpatient and outpatient services
such as: office visits, emergency room/accidents, anesthesia benefits, hospitalization,
intensive care, and surgery.
Monthly premiums typically
range from $38 to $78 for an employee or $106 to $207 for employee and family.
