FEATURED STORIES
OCBC Leads Bi-Partisan OC Commission on Economic Stimulus and Recovery
Last week, Lucy Dunn, President and CEO, Scott Baugh, Chairman of the Republican Party of Orange County, and Frank Barbaro, Chairman of the Democratic Party of Orange County,  convened a broad coalition of elected  officials, business executives, labor representatives and public agency  heads to develop a jobs strategy for Orange County and California. The focus of the strategic discussion  included candid discussions on the importance of reaching agreement on a California state budget a year overdue; what projects and formulas will best help the OC kick-start its economy; and how to align OC's Congressional delegation.

The House passed its $819 billion dollar stimulus package last week opposed by all but one OC Congressional delegate, yet even Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez was reluctant to support it as it did not benefit Orange County in any significant way.  This week, the Senate will take up its version of the bill and OCBC will continue to push for more infrastructure funding for "shovel-ready" projects.   Orange County has a lengthy list of  transportation, water, education and other projects that may qualify for billions in federal funding.

OCBC, Automobile Club of Southern California, and Orange County Transportation Authority have aligned on a letter to the Governor, as well as county’s state and federal elected representatives urging swift action to help secure and make the best use of potential economic recovery funds currently under debate in Washington D.C.

Irvine Chamber Highlights Economic Outlook
Lead by OCBC board member, Dr. Andy Policano, Dean of UCI's Merage School of Business, the Irvine Chamber presented an outstanding 2009 economic outlook program.  Dean Policano detailed the reasons for the current crisis but helped 500 attendees put into historical perspective the past and present indicators.  One of this most important pieces of advice was to "turn off the news.  We've been here before and we're likely to come out of this recession as well, but there's no reason to fall prey to the gloom and doom of daily media headlines."  Click here to view Dr. Policano's powerpoint.  For more info, contact Lucy Dunn.
