Please join our growing list of sponsors and pledge your contribution today. Sponsorships range from $1,000 to $5,000 and offer you a wide variety of benefits and recognition, as outlined on the event webpage. OCBC Returns from Washington
OCBC's delegation of business leaders, government officials and elected representatives returned to "the OC" last week after meeting with federal lawmakers in Washington, D.C. to discuss the region’s top business priorities. In separate meetings with legislators, including Senators Diane Feinstein and Barbara Boxer, OCBC delegates shared little known facts about Orange County—that for the first time in history, more folks now commute from Los Angeles to Orange County for work than vice versa. As Orange County Transportation Authority CEO, Art Leahy, said, tongue-in-cheek, “That effectively makes LA Orange County’s largest suburb!”
Humor aside, Orange County’s continued economic prosperity depends on increased investment in aging infrastructure, particularly transportation. With the recent renewal of Measure M providing another $12 billion over 30 years for county transportation projects, our voters recognize the value of keeping our transit systems state-of-the-art. However, effective regional movement of goods and people will additionally require substantial coordination among federal, state and local agencies and a “fair share” allocation of limited public dollars.
Consider this: the LA and Long Beach ports receive and then distribute 35% of the nation’s imports, and LAX handles 78% of the region’s air cargo. As much as one-third of all cargo entering through the ports passes through Orange County on its way east, significantly impacting transportation infrastructure. As OCBC’s delegation reiterated many times, Congress must recognize its responsibilities in ensuring adequate infrastructure for national goods movement.
While the federal advocacy trip was a success, work must continue locally as well as nationally. OCBC is Orange County’s leading voice of business, committed to securing enhanced regional infrastructure, an adequate supply of workforce housing and a well-educated workforce. To meet our goals, we need you. Please visit our website to learn how you can help.
