Leon Cooperman to be Keynote Speaker at NYSSA’s Annual Dinner
Leon G. Cooperman, CFA, chairman of Omega Advisors, Inc. will be the keynote speaker for NYSSA’s Annual Dinner on June 17.

The Annual Dinner is the premier event on the NYSSA calendar. It attracts more than 300 of NYSSA’s most active and senior members as well as VIPs within the New York financial community. This year’s dinner will afford NYSSA an opportunity to raise funds to support education and student outreach programs, host distinguished guests and honor the achievements of NYSSA’s SEMI (Scholarship, Education, Mentoring, Internship) scholarship recipients, the Investment Research Challenge winning team and the Volunteers of the Year.

All proceeds generated by the dinner will go towards the funding of NYSSA student programs. These programs are designed to guide students throughout their academic career, starting in high school with the Multicultural Outreach program and through graduate school by way of the SEMI program and the Investment Research Challenge.
Cooperman has a distinguished career on Wall St. He retired from his positions as a general partner of Goldman, Sachs & Co. and as chairman and chief executive officer of Goldman Sachs Asset Management at the end of 1991 to organize a private investment partnership, under the direction of Omega Advisors, Inc.

At Goldman Sachs, Cooperman spent 15 years as partner and from 1990 to 1991, as of counsel to the Management Committee. In 1989, he became chairman and chief executive officer of Goldman Sachs Asset Management and was chief investment officer of the equity product line including managing the GS Capital Growth Fund, an open-end mutual fund.

He is a senior member and past president of the New York Society of Security Analysts. Cooperman received his MBA from Columbia University and his undergraduate degree from Hunter College. He is a recipient of Roger Williams University’s Honorary Doctor of Finance and was inducted to Hunter College’s Hall of Fame.
