Second Annual Asian Financial Forum Schedule Announced
The January 19-20, 2009 Asian Financial Forum (AFF), taking place in Hong Kong, will be addressing some of the key issues affecting China and the Asia region today. This two-day program will feature more than 25 speakers from around the region discussing topics pertinent to today’s economic environment.

Though the global financial market has experienced dramatic changes recently, Asia remains well-positioned as the growth engine for the world economy. By 2020, Asia’s share of global GDP is forecast to be 27 percent, topping US$35 trillion. Asia’s trade is expected to reach US$17 trillion, of which 60 percent is expected to be intra-regional.

Under the theme “The Changing Face of Asia,” AFF will cover a variety of financial issues, including Asia’s role in global financial markets, the implications of global volatility for Asia, financial reforms and changes in the regulatory regime, Islamic finance, the global investment climate and new business models amid the financial turmoil. There will also be a session on issues including energy, natural resources and environmental protection with regards to how these factors will impact investment strategies.

Networking opportunities at this year’s AFF will be maximized via a Deal-Sourcing session, which serves as a business-matching forum co-organized by the US-based Association of Corporate Growth and the Hong Kong Venture Capital and Private Equity Association. Approximately 30 private equity firms, intermediaries and transaction support professionals from the two groups will meet to discuss collaboration possibilities.

Last year’s conference drew almost 1,000 attendees. This year’s event is likely to have the same appeal with speakers including: Dominique Strauss-Kahn, Managing Director, International Monetary Fund; Alexi Leonidovich Kudrin, Deputy Chairman, Government of the Russian Federation and the Minister of Finance, the Russian Federation; Badlisyah Abdul Ghani Executive Director and CEO CIMB Islamic Bank Berhad; The Rt. Hon. The Lord Leon Brittan of Spennithorne QC DL, Vice Chairman, UBS Investment Bank; Tran Xuan Ha, Vice Finance Minister of Vietnam, and others.

AFF is the place for bankers, institutional investors, fund managers, business leaders, senior executives of high-growth corporations and other key financial players to build new contacts, gather the latest intelligence and explore business opportunities with the focus on China and the rest of Asia.

This conference is co-organized by the Hong Kong SAR Government and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC).
