Despite the global economic crisis, Brazil’s outlook remains relatively strong. Brazil’s real may strengthen to 1.8 per dollar by the end of the year as faster economic growth attracts foreign investment and higher demand for commodities boosts exports according to JPMorgan Chase & Co. The real has gained 23 percent so far in 2009, which is the best performance against the dollar among the 16 most-traded currencies tracked by Bloomberg.

At the end of 2008, the price of oil was down by 61% for the year, after hitting a record high of $147 a barrel in June. In 2009, prices have averaged in the 40s and 50s. However, by mid-September oil futures rose above $72 a barrel, near its high for the year, after the U.S. Energy Department reported that inventories dropped to the lowest level since January.

E&P companies have seen their stock prices drop, but analysts say cost cutting measures implemented in the past year coupled with increasing production levels, a stabilizing economy, and the rising price of oil are making the industry an attractive investment right now. Attend to find out what clean technologies will be the leaders in the coming year.

A myriad of executives, political leaders and special interest groups have placed fair value in their cross-hairs and mobilized a massive effort to eliminate the disclosure of values that fairly represent what the market would pay.

As we prepare to discuss this topic at the conference, the FASB and IASB have diverged on this issue, which raises questions about the path to and timing of convergence. To address this matter and others of a standard setting nature, these noted speakers will share their insightful views:
Robert Herz, chairman of FASB;
Patricia McConnell, member of the IASB (and former board member of NYSSA); and
Marc Siegel, member of FASB

The biotech sector has rebounded off its Q1 lows of the year, but does the industry have what it takes to survive the long term? The major biotech indexes are either matching or outperforming the S&P 500. At the beginning of October, the Nasdaq Biotech Stock Index (NBI) was up nearly 10% YTD and the AMEX Biotech Index (BTK) had gains of almost 40%. The S&P 500 was up approximately 10%.

Don’t miss this chance to learn about opportunities in investing in specialty pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.
