Great to see the TV programme on Kenmare Community School's use of Fast ForWord. This has been a tremendous success for the teachers and the parents, but most of all for the students. Their reading scores have shot up, their learning skills have improved dramatically and best of all their attitude has changed tremendously. All the kids on the programme gained grades in their summer exams, some even improved their reading ages by up to 3 years.

About the Speaker:
Sarah Dunning received her Masters of Education from Northern Kentucky University and her Bachelor of Science in Education from Miami University in Oxford OH. She spent 17 years in education as a classroom teacher and program facilitator in Cincinnati Public schools and then was a curriculum coordinator for a private school in Cincinnati OH. She has worked as an Educational Consultant throughout the last four years, presenting at national and state conferences on reading interventions. She has also given extensive professional development trainings for teachers in K-12 schools.

When football dad Kai Vacher wants to shout at his son to take the ball up the wing, he has to restrain himself. For, although Ben, 7 (right), can hear, he can’t understand. He has auditory processing disorder (APD), a listening difficulty that could affect 10 per cent of children.

Kai and his partner Anna had wondered about Ben’s hearing since he was little. “Every time he went to playgroup he would say, ‘Something is wrong with my ear; there is always a rushing sound like rain’,” Anna recalls. But when a teacher suggested he might be deaf the hearing tests came out normal.....
