Yakutat, like most Alaska coastal communities boasts generations of experience of seafood harvesting. We have profiled one such company below, Raven's Table Smokery and listed others as part of this article; however, we have never had a community boast about a product actually produced in a neighboring region that they embrace as their own. Yes, according to locals the Alaskan Brewing IPA featuring a photo of a surfer catching a wave in front of Mount St. Elias personifies one dimension of their Yakutat and is their favorite local product.

We were pleasantly surprised when reading Food & Nutrition Research Briefs (a product of the Agricultural Research Service News) that featured Alaska's very own Dr. Peter Bechtel's research on a new fish wrap product made from Pollock. This follows on one of our first stories in Collaborative INSIGHTS about the utilization of crab shells for packaging that maintained shelf stability and freshness. Accolades to Dr. Bechtel for his work.
