Alaskan Winter Ale and Alaskan Smoked Porter give many people a reason to look forward to winter. Alaskan Winter Ale is brewed in the style of an English Olde Ale, which is full-bodied and has the warming sensation of alcohol. This year its release coincided with the 100th anniversary of the Tongass National Forest. The largest temperate rainforest in the world, the Tongass is home to many Sitka spruce trees, the tips of which are the prized ingredient for Winter Ale. The tender new growth of Sitka spruce tips lends a sweet floral aroma that is balanced by the crispness of noble hops. So be sure to toast the Tongass centennial and the holidays with Alaskan Winter Ale.

Also highly anticipated was the November release of the 2007 vintage of Alaskan Smoked Porter. Alaskan Smoked Porter has won medals for both the 2006 and 2004 vintages at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) in Denver and just a few weeks ago won a bronze medal in the Smoked Beer category at the European Beer Star Awards.   Now that is a world class beer! One of the most unique characteristics of Alaskan Smoked Porter is that it can be aged like a fine wine. Some yeast is left in it so it continues to condition in the bottle and the smoke acts as a preservative. There’s no telling how long this beer can be aged, with some people reporting enjoying Alaskan Smoked Porter five and even 10 years or more later. Many Alaskan Brewing Co. fans report giving a case as a gift during the holidays, because it's one that the recipient can enjoy for years.
