Pharmacy Issues in Multivitamin Infusion
The nutrition support pharmacist plays a critical role in the overall management of patients receiving parenteral nutrition and multivitamin infusion. Because vitamins are important cofactors in numerous metabolic pathways, vitamin deficiencies can have a rate-limiting effect on healing and tissue repair. Therefore, it is important for pharmacists (as well as other nutrition support professionals) to be aware of the four principal chemical degradation pathways that may lead to vitamin loss during TPN.
