Vehicle Profile: The 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan AVP
AVP the MVP of entry-level minivan market.

The Dodge Grand Caravan has always delivered superior value to the minivan segment, and the 2012 AVP, Dodge’s entry-level trim to the Grand Caravan model lineup, is perhaps the finest example. No other minivan blends class-leading flexibility with real world affordability quite so seamlessly.

The 2012 Grand Caravan AVP (short for American Value Package) is the most economical and accessible Grand Caravan in Dodge’s lineup. Unlike most entry-level minivans, the Grand Caravan AVP starts out well equipped with a number of appealing features, class-leading performance specs and a wealth of standard safety features, along with the flexibility Grand Caravan drivers love.

Outside, the 2012 AVP sports a sturdy stance, bold Dodge crosshair grille and clean, fluid lines, along with standard features like 16-inch wheels, halogen headlamps, a pair of sliding doors and even heated, power-adjustable side mirrors. The aptly named Value Package delivers an impressive level of style and substance for your dollar.

One of the AVP model’s most impressive inclusions is beneath the hood, in the form of a standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine (one of Ward’s “10 Best Engines”). Through a six-speed automatic transmission, the Grand Caravan’s V6 churns out a class-leading 283 hp and 260 lb/ft of torque and uses Variable Valve Timing, Fuel Optimizer Calibration and even FlexFuel capability for exceptional efficiency. The celebrated V6 also helps the 2012 AVP to a towing capacity of 3,600 pounds, which, you might have guessed, is also best in its class.

Not only is the AVP cabin laden with desirable features, it’s also one of the most versatile and functional in the industry. In addition to spacious front bucket seats, the Grand Caravan gets the innovative and exclusive Stow ’n GoÒ seating in the second and third rows. Second-row buckets easily fold flat into the floor while a third-row bench can either fold down or be turned around completely for comfortable tailgate seating. With all seats in place, you enjoy 12 cubic feet of storage in underfloor storage bins.

The 2012 AVP comes standard with power windows, keyless entry, a tilting and telescoping steering wheel with audio controls and a 12-volt power outlet. It also gets a UconnectÔ Media Center 130 audio system with CD/MP3 playback and available SiriusXM Satellite Radio and Bluetooth Streaming Audio.

Though it starts at just $20,995, the newest Grand Caravan AVP features the occupant protection technology of a far more expensive vehicle. Electronic Stability Control, Power Rack and Pinion Steering, a responsive touring suspension and four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes all come standard. Inside, you’ll find a standard tire pressure monitor, active head restraints, child seat anchors and an impressive seven airbags.

Well-equipped with sophisticated style, class-leading performance and an exceptionally versatile interior, the 2012 AVP isn’t just the most economical Grand Caravan ever, it represents one of the best overall values in the minivan segment.
