Aries (March 21 - April 19)
You start the year in a far more optimistic mood than you've been in for some time. You are right to feel that way! The unusual feature to January is that in the first three weeks every planet will be moving direct speed. To have three weeks of strong, positive energy from all the little planets is a gift, and you may want to use that time to initiate something of importance. The sooner you get started, the better. Life will slow down eventually and you will have to be satisfied with minimal, step-by-step progress. Tell an Aries that progress will slow in coming months, and they break out in rash. Patience is not a quality you are known to have ever cultivated, but may now have to do. The area Mars is based is your workaday sector, which means you will have to expect delays in regard to all kinds of projects, at work and at home. Everything will take a little longer to accomplish than you assume it will, and this will keep up through most of April, even though Mars will turn direct April 13. For best results, do everything in your power to get things signed, sealed, and delivered well in advance of the date he turns retrograde, January 23.
Taurus (April 20- May 20)
It's January and you are thinking of taking a vacation now that the year-end holidays are over. The holidays can be strenuous, so consider flying away to a mountainous spot that will give you the change you crave. If you can, it would be a great time to go. You were able to get into the spirit of the season, and you are not about to simmer down into work mode if you can help it. There's nothing wrong with squeezing a few more joyous days into January, especially in the first part, before the pace picks up. Mars is still moving through your house of romance, so you would find this to be the perfect time to enjoy your partner, or if you don't have one, to meet someone new. Travel and love will be linked this month, another reason to look quickly into travel packages. The new moon that arrived in the divine-for-Taurus sign of Capricorn on December 24 (2 degrees) urged you to spread your wings. The universe is rolling out the red carpet leading to the tarmac. Later, on January 12, Mars and the Sun will be in ideal sync too, another signal that spending any time away would refresh you in a way that would allow you to return with fresh ideas and a new perspective.

Gemini (May 21 - June 20)
As the month opens, financial matters will take your time to sort out, for there will be decisions to make, paperwork to fill out, arrangements to set, and checks to write or be deposited. You may have already been thinking about certain financial matters that need to be resolved or finished and be working on them now. As a Gemini, you are not very materialistic - you prefer to talk about various ideas and concepts instead of thinking about money matters, but everyone has to address them from time to time. Why not get them all done now so that in a matter of weeks you can be free to travel, see friends, and enjoy life? No matter if someone owes you money, or you owe the money back, you will find yourself in a strong financial position in January. Events are more likely to go in your favor than not this month.
Cancer (June 21 - July 22)
As you begin January, you may be focused on your partner quite a bit. If you are married or in an established relationship, you already know the identity of this person. If you are not in that kind of relationship, there are others in your life who might qualify as a partner to you too. Business alliances qualify as partners, and it need not be a twosome partner, say in a law firm or a retail business. The new moon that occurred December 24 lit your seventh house of partners and will still be strong as you enter January, so you can make a lot of progress. Jupiter, the great planet of happiness and good fortune, played a dominant role at that new moon, so you should feel optimistic about moving forward with plans. It looks as though this partnership could bring quite a profit or, in the romantic sense, a comforting sense of security. If you already have a partner, you may now feel motivated to find ways to make more from that relationship by drawing up new goals and plans.
Leo (July 23- August 22)
You have barely ended your holiday festivities when you are being expected to quickly change gears and be fully attentive to all that is going on at the office. You seem to have a full plate and it's taking a lot to get into the swing of things. What you are seeing as you enter January is the underside of the glamour of fame. It takes a lot of grueling hard work to make it to the top, along with a number of hard-to-make sacrifices, and to stay at your lofty perch, it requires even more work. The public only sees the adored entertainer in glittering gown, the medaled athlete stretching his arms in the air, or the winning politician giving his victory acceptance speech. No one sees the years of training and study, the lonely nights working late in hotel rooms, the lack of sleep, the long airplane trips while working on the computer during the flight, or those dreaded occasional days of defeat. Success always looks easy, but fame is earned the old fashioned way, by working hard. You will be given an extraordinary chance to succeed in a way you have not even imagined for yourself before, but it will take hard work and a consistent effort.
Virgo (August 23 - September 22)
January is going to be very good to you! This is an ideal month for seeing progress in your dearest wishes, especially during the first three weeks. So make a list of all you'd like to achieve and start scheduling your calendar. Your love life will be buzzing too, and with just a little nudge from you (such as a willingness to circulate more, or if you are attached, to put aside problems that have been pressing on you both, with no resolve) you can see a wonderful uptick to your emotional life. Libra (September 23 - October 22)
This month has lots of news on just about every front, so you certainly will be busy! Home, family, career, money, and plenty of romance could well make January one of your favorite and most productive months of the year. First on your agenda will be to take care of home and family-related concerns. Perhaps the recent holidays have made you realize that your home is important and deserves attention too. Life isn't just about career or paying bills - it's about love, closeness, and strengthening the bonds of family because in the end, those are the things that matter. With so much going on in your career due to changes wrought by the eclipses in recent years, perhaps you have neglected your physical home, in terms of maintenance, repairs, in-depth cleaning, and de-cluttering, painting, and modernizing. Early January would be an ideal month to go over what needs to be done, and to get started.
Your outlook for January is very special, for the coming month will bring you many options to move ahead assertively on new projects and relationships, especially during the month's first three weeks. At the same time, if you found the volume of life was high in December and you'd like to take a break, you might be able to take a quick trip in January, one that would let you recharge your batteries and send you home new and improved. Your career has shown exciting progress and you have plenty of time to make your mark this year. You have a rare ability to see your name in lights and bring a major contribution to the marketplace. You've been building momentum, but you may have noticed that lately progress has slowed, and you may have blamed that on the recent year-end holidays. That is not the reason. Mars is currently slowing down his orbit, and that has affected you. During normal times, it takes Mars about two days to move one degree, but lately, if you study NASA's table of planetary progress, called an ephemeris, you will see it is taking Mars five days to complete the same journey. That's VERY slow, and when he proceeds slowly, your career does too. Think of Mars as the high-octane fuel that acts as the booster rocket to all your biggest initiatives. You need Mars to be in strong form to ensure a proper launch to all your plans, and alas, you will have to be patient while Mars rests in retrograde.
Capricorn (December 22 - January 19)
Most people think of January as the time for a fresh start, but for you, it's not only the New Year, but also birthday time, making this a doubly exciting important time. Capricorns like to give their lives form, goals, and structure, and you want to map out an outline of a plan, but over the past two years, you've experienced so many twists and turns, partly due to the eclipses in Cancer and Capricorn, that you aren't sure if a plan is even possible. It is! Change is good, but as you are going through it, it can feel overwhelming. You may have felt like you were on a ship in high seas that was taking you somewhere, but you weren't exactly sure where you would dock, and whether the natives would speak your language or even be friendly when you arrived. You may have made at least one new friend in December, and this month, you will have time to cultivate that friendship and grow it into something more.
