Members of the Center for Real Estate's Class of 2009 will be attending the Fall Meeting of the Urban Land Institute in Miami, FL. In addition to attending the Meeting sessions, we encourage the Class to connect with other alums who are attending the Meeting as well. If you would like to meet the Class of 2009, e-mail Maria Vieira and let her know. We will be announcing the location of the MIT/CRE reception in a couple of weeks. Keep an eye out for an e-mail from the Chairman, Tony Ciochetti, further enlisting your support!

GRADS GOING GREEN
3 Theses that Reflect Commitment to Solutions
The built environment accounts for nearly 45% of all CO2 emissions in the U.S. (the other major sectors – industry and transportation – produce about 25% and 30% respectively). With climate change and global warming demanding urgent action, real estate practitioners are seeking to apply green building consciously and profitably.
This interest is reflected in real estate students coming of age during the "green revolution," and who over the next few decades will help create solutions to the climate crisis. Candidates for MIT's Master of Science in Real Estate Development are no exception. Of the roughly three dozen theses submitted this year, a substantial number address various aspects of sustainability. The three below offer just a sampling of how young professionals are responding to the need to act.

ALUMNI/AE CONNECTIONS PROGRAM NEEDS YOU
Connect with the Class of 2009!
.jpg?i=091008134136)
So far, 25 alums have agreed to participate in the "Alumni/ae Connections" program. Thank you for volunteering! While we have had an excellent response to our invitation, I would like to encourage more international alums to participate. While a third of our class is international, only two of the "alumni/ae connectors" who have volunteered to date are from outside of the United States. Last year, a number of students asked to be matched with international "connectors" and we had to really stretch to meet the need. I invite our entire alumni/ae body to consider being a point of contact, a "touchstone", for a member of the new class. During the initial contact the alum could be a sounding board for the student's resume. You could also be a resource in the development class or a bridge to another alum or real estate professional that you think might be helpful in some way. Each alum will be assigned one student. The idea is for the students to get an immediate sense and appreciation for the wonderful alumni/ae network of which they are now a part. To sign up for connecting with a member of the current class, CLICK HERE or e-mail me at marionoc@mit.edu. If you send an e-mail, please be sure to outline any preferences you have, for example, gender, country, area of interest, background. Volunteer to make the MIT/CRE connection!
