THANK YOU!
"Thank You” to all the Alumni/ae who Made the Fall of 2007 Outstanding

Happy New Year!

In the tradition of MIT, the Center is committed to bringing to the real estate development process and the real estate industry, the very best that experience and science have to offer, cultivating the enormous potential of the industry to “improve the world by developing better real estate.” This is our vision.

We must harness the vast resources of other disciplines across MIT – planning, design, engineering systems, finance, management and economics – to integrate with our real estate development curriculum and research. We must reach out to and partner with industry to build their trust and commitment. Our curricular focus, our research focus, our cultivation of our alumni – are all part of our dedication to this vision.  We plan to continuously articulate our vision (“improve the world by developing better real estate”) because our alumni/ae, our enduring partners, are a key component of that vision. Their importance is reflected by their contributions.  As we look to the New Year, we would like to say “thank you” to all of the alumni/ae who have made the fall of 2007 outstanding:

  • Alums who have participated in the classroom
  • Teaching Assistants
  • Alums who played a key role in the Las Vegas tour during the ULI Annual Meeting
  • The coordinator of the Los Angeles FIRE presentation
  • Graduates of the Center who have encouraged, facilitated, participated in, or organized company presentations
  • MIT/CRE Graduates who have participated in other aspects of the Center’s Professional Development Program aka Career Services
  • Panelists in the Center’s November Open House
  • AACRE Steering Committee
  • Alumni/ae Host Volunteers
  • AACRE Holiday Party Hosts
  • Fall 2007 Donors

Present a Real Deal to the Class of 2008

Our Real Deals series gives students the opportunity to get a "behind-the-scenes" look at the development process.  Alums have been an incredible resource for this program.  This fall MIT/CRE alums Tim Pattison, Robin Berry, Dan McCadden, Mark Dunne, and Sandi Stroud provided an inside look at the development of the Liberty Hotel in Boston, MA; Sterling Village in Vallejo, CA; and mixed-use development in the Washington, D.C. area.

During presentations students get a good idea of what the development of a project entails and an appreciation for the different perspectives and objectives of each participant.   What are the objectives of the land owner, developer, and equity participant and how are they different?   In the past, students have mentioned that presenters always say that they learned a great deal from the things that did not go as planned, but often focus on the successful aspects of their projects.  Real Deals provide a unique opportunity to prepare students for the good, the bad, and the totally unexpected.

If you would be interested in presenting a "Real Deal," please contact Marion Cunningham at marionoc@mit.edu.  This is an opportunity to contribute to the education of the current class while highlighting your achievements.
