AACRE-ULI SUSTAINABILITY SYMPOSIUM
Symposium to be held at MIT's Faculty Club May 11, 2007
Environmentally sustainable (Green) building is becoming increasingly mainstream in the real estate industry. The growing interest in sustainability reflects the increasing concern about the impact on our environment, the rising cost of energy, and the mounting evidence of the holistic benefits of building green. This symposium will explore how operators, investors and developers might begin to build, renovate and operate with sustainability in mind.
To see the agenda for the symposium and take our "green" survey, read the "FULL STORY".

SAN FRANCISCO FIRE EVENT a SUCCESS!
Director David Geltner Discusses a Revolution in the Real Estate Industry, Hyatt @Fisherman's Wharf, April 10th
Center for Real Estate Director, David Geltner, presented his work on Transaction Price Indexes and Derivatives on Tuesday, April 10th. Prof. Geltner has been studying how these innovations in the world of real-estate investment have the potential to converge in this country and revolutionize the industry, and with it, perhaps, even the way many commercial buildings are designed, built and managed. Transaction-price-based indexes allow for tracking commercial-property price movements, and real-estate equity derivatives allow synthetic trading of investment real estate. According to one alum, "the presentation was excellent and it was helpful to learn more about the new tools MIT is working on." You can access the slides he used for the presentation via MITREX. If you would like to learn more about the indexes and derivatives, Prof. Geltner will be teaching a Professional Development Course (PDC) entitled "New Tools: Real Estate Equity Derivatives" July 11th and 12th. You can find out more about the course and the Center's other PDC's at web.mit.edu/cre/conted.
