|MILTON MARTIN HONDA SPECIAL OFFERS: Lease a 2012 Honda Accord for $199 per month or purchase with 0.9% APR financing!
Everyone loves a good rivalry. The Honda Accord and Toyota Camry have been duking it out ever since they came onto the automotive scene more than 25 years ago, and Honda continues to prove why the Accord is the smarter choice in the midsize segment.
Paying More Doesn’t Get You More
The 2012 Honda Accord starts at an MSRP of $21,480*, nearly $600 less than the $22,055 MSRP of the 2012 Toyota Camry. And don’t think that a higher MSRP means you get more standard features; the Accord goes toe to toe with the Camry every step of the way and bests it in many areas, as well. In fact, after compiling and analyzing independent reviews and reports from all corners of the automotive world, U.S. News ranked the 2012 Honda Accord number two on its list of “Affordable Midsize Cars,” nine spots ahead of the 11th ranked Toyota Camry.
Plenty of Space & Amenities
The 2012 Accord and Camry compete in the same segment, but the Accord is both longer and wider, and it sits on a larger wheelbase. Plus, the Accord offers its occupants more front and rear headroom, front hip, leg and shoulder room and more overall passenger volume. Driver and passengers alike will appreciate the keyless entry system that is standard in the Accord and not available in the Camry L. The Accord also adds steering wheel-mounted audio and cruise controls, an illuminated vanity mirror, a rear seat pass-through and floor mats to the list of standard equipment not found on the Camry L.
Power & Ride
Each model is available with a fuel-efficient four cylinder engine or a more powerful V6 option. The Accord comes standard with a 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder that produces 177 hp through a five-speed manual or available automatic transmission. A 190-hp four-cylinder is also available on the Accord, as well. The Camry produces 178 hp through its 2.5-liter four-cylinder through a six-speed automatic. No manual is offered on the Camry, so those wanting to shift gears themselves should look elsewhere. Also, only the Accord offers a Drive-by-Wire™ Throttle System, which provides a more connected and smooth driving experience. On upper Accord trims, a 271-hp V6 is available and comes standard with Variable Cylinder Management, which can shut off up to half its cylinders for better fuel economy without sacrificing performance. The Camry counters with a 3.5-liter V6 that produces 268 hp.
The Accord and Camry were both earned “Top Safety Pick” designations from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, but only the Accord was also awarded top, “Five-Star” ratings in both Overall Frontal Crash Safety and Rollover Safety from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The Camry only managed four stars in both tests. The Accord also comes standard with Front Active Head Restraints and the Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) Body Structure, which helps better distribute energy in the event of a front-end collision. You won’t find either feature on a Camry.
The Toyota Camry is a fine automobile, but when looking for the best, take a look at the Accord. When you put it all together, the Honda Accord offers more value and safety. Contact us today for a test drive of the 2012 Honda Accord.
