In its fifth season as the Official Automotive Partner of the NBA, Kia has formed a new partnership with the Golden State Warriors and renewed relationships with nine other teams.
Beginning with the 2011-2012 NBA season, Kia will serve as the Official Vehicle of the Golden State Warriors. With the addition of Golden State, Kia now has a presence with 13 teams, or nearly half the league.
This season, Kia renewed partnership agreements with the Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, Denver Nuggets, Miami Heat, New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers, Phoenix Suns and San Antonio Spurs. Kia also has multi-year agreements in place with the Los Angeles Clippers, Orlando Magic and Portland Trail Blazers.
In addition to relationships with individual teams, Kia is also the Official Automotive Partner of the NBA All-Star Game, title partner of the Kia NBA Performance Awards, the Official Automotive Partner of NBA Cares and the title sponsor of ESPN’s Kia NBA Countdown.
High-flying NBA All-Star Blake Griffin of the Los Angeles Clippers recently became a global brand ambassador for Kia after leaping over an Optima midsize sedan to win the 2011 Sprite Slam Dunk Contest. Griffin is now featured in Kia commercials and other promotional campaigns.
Kia’s partnership with the NBA has led to increased overall sales and expanded brand visibility. In 2011, Kia enjoyed its best-ever sales total and recorded its 17th consecutive year of market-share growth.
The NBA partnership is just one of Kia’s many marketing initiatives within the sports world. Kia is the Official Automotive Partner of the LPGA and the title sponsor of the Kia Classic held each year in California. Michelle Wie serves as Kia’s official golf ambassador. Kia also manages a formidable U.S. racing program that captured its first-ever championship last year in the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge. In 2012, the racing program will also compete in the Pirelli World Challenge.
High-profile partnerships like the one with the NBA have helped Kia become one of the fastest-growing car companies in the U.S. Backed by the excitement of the NBA, Kia will continue scoring points with its constantly growing fan base.
