DHS Band earns top band awards

The Dickinson High School Gator Marching Band is making a name for itself in UIL 5A competition by earning several top awards at the recent Galena Park Marching Contest. The band was awarded Best Overall Band, Top 5A Band and Best Drum Line at the contest, where 30 total bands competed including 21 from UIL 5A. The band also participated in the Katy Marching Festival on Oct. 10 where they earned fifth place out of 17 UIL-5A bands and the award for Best Drum Line.

The community is invited to come out and support the Gator Marching Band at several upcoming contests:

Oct. 17 - Lonestar Preview Marching Festival
Oct. 20 - UIL Region Marching Contest
Oct. 24 - Sam Houston State University Marching Contest

Dickinson ISD will be hosting the UIL Region Marching Contest this year at Sam Vitanza Stadium, giving us an opportunity to not only showcase the Gator Marching Band on their home turf but also to showcase our new district stadium at a large regional event. The first band performs at 5 p.m. Oct. 20 with bands following throughout the evening.
