You want a vehicle that provides on-road comfort but can tackle off-road challenges. You also want a vehicle that is family-friendly, gets your kids to soccer practice and can keep going even when the pavement ends.
The 2009 Touareg 2 can give you all of that and a lot more. This SUV is appealing thanks to its luxury interior, off-road capability and smooth driving, as well as an impressive list of standard features. The best part? With a base MSRP of $39,300, the Touareg 2 won’t leave your wallet running on empty.
The Touareg 2 has two engine choices, V6 or V8, with six-speed automatic transmission, all-wheel drive and low-range gear standard. The V6 is a narrow-angle 3.6-liter engine that produces 280 hp and 265 lb/ft of torque while the V8 is a 4.2-liter unit that produces 350 hp and 324 lb/ft of torque. The V6 gets an EPA-estimated 14 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway while the V8 gets 13 miles per gallon in the city and 18 miles per gallon on the highway.
In March 2009, Volkswagen will be rolling out another Touareg – the Touareg V6 TDI clean diesel SUV. Powered by a 3.0-liter, turbocharged six-cylinder engine, the V6 TDI will be capable of producing 221 hp and an impressive 407 lb/ft of torque. Equipped with one of the most advanced diesel engines made, this Touareg will get 25 miles per gallon on the highway. With a fuel tank capacity of 26.4 gallons, the TDI will have a driving range of more than 600 miles per tank, all while producing fewer emissions.
On (and off) the road, the Touareg 2 delivers a satisfying drive with a ride that’s smooth and stable. The V6 and V8 engines provide plenty of oomph, and when taken off-road, the Touareg 2 can take on steep passes and deep ruts. When properly equipped, Touareg 2 can tow 7,700 pounds – more than many competitors.
The 2009 Touareg 2 looks like it’s ready to take on the toughest trails thanks to its wide stance. Compared to the original Touareg, Touareg 2 features reshaped headlights, grille and bumper, as well as new, larger side mirrors and updated taillights and exhaust tips. The Touareg 2 sits on a wheelbase of 112.4 inches and is 187.2 inches long and 75.9 inches wide.
Inside, the Touareg 2 is upscale and elegant thanks to a richly appointed cabin of leather, wood and chrome trim. With this level of quality and comfort, the interior of the Touareg 2 rivals the best in the luxury SUV class. The Touareg 2 remains a two-row SUV. Luggage space is good thanks to a large, squared-off rear cargo area.
VW’s midsize SUV entry features VR6 and V8 trim levels. The VR6 includes standard 17-inch alloys, a power sunroof and liftgate, power heated leatherette seats with dual-zone climate control and a 10-speaker CD audio system with satellite radio. The upgraded V8 incorporates 19-inch wheels, adaptive bi-xenon headlights, a smoother air suspension system, interior power leather seats and real wood trim.
The available Lux Plus Package includes keyless ignition and entry as well as a premium 10-speaker stereo. VW's Technology Package adds an advanced hard drive-based navigation system and 11-speaker premium audio system.
Both Touareg 2 models include standard stability, descent and incline rollback control systems, antilock brakes with brake assist and front, side and side-curtain airbags, earning the Touareg 2 five-star safety ratings in National Highway Traffic Safety Administration crash tests.
When it comes to navigating the roads (and the roads less traveled) the 2009 Volkswagen Touareg 2 is the SUV you need.
