In 2009, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), a private organization funded by the insurance industry, chose 94 different car and truck models as Top Safety Picks, based upon the vehicles' performance in crash tests and their various levels of safety equipment. This year, the organization raised the bar higher in choosing its Top Safety Picks, and just 27 vehicles made the cut. The 2010 Mercedes C-Class was one of the chosen.

Sensible size contains notable utility and ability.
New last year, the compact Mercedes GLK350 is built on the sturdy C-Class sedan platform, yet it has been trimmed down, making it a short and easily maneuverable 178-inch SUV. That's about the same size as a Honda CR-V. The GLK350 is a bit wider and much heavier, due to its powerful driveline and luxury equipment.
