Vehicle Profile: 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe

All the C-Class you love with two doors.

The C-Class Coupe is that perfect blend of style and substance for which Mercedes-Benz has become iconic. From practical to thrilling, there is sure to be a C-Class Coupe to your liking.

Stance

The 2012 C-Class Coupe captivates with a low silhouette and strong shoulders. The wedge-shaped beltline provides a styling connection to the C-Class Sedan, yet the upsweeping long hood and sloping roof are distinctive to the coupes.

Dramatic, Redesigned Interior

Once behind the wheel, the driver immediately notices the three-spoke, 12-button multifunction steering wheel finished in aluminum. The perforated leather hand grips and a flat bottom, along with Formula One-style shift paddles hint at the race-inspired heritage.

The luxurious interior of the C-Class Coupe is inviting, featuring sport seats with integrated headrests, prominent bolsters and a driver memory function.  A prominent dashboard trim panel stretches from the center air vents along the passenger side dash.  A panoramic sunroof is standard on all C-Class Coupes.

All C-Class models feature a 5.8-inch color display that incorporates Bluetooth for hands-free calling and next-generation telematics such as an FM phase-diversity twin tuner, HD/AM weatherband radio, MP3-compatible CD drive and USB port.

The available COMAND system comes with a larger seven-inch color display, hard-drive-based GPS navigation, a 10GB music storage hard drive, an SD card slot, voice control and a six-disc CD/DVD changer.   The powerful navigation system offers a 3D city-map display, a compass overlay, and the ability to show alternate routes as well as to record routes.  Real-time traffic and weather information on the navigation map are available via an optional SiriusXM Satellite Radio feature.

The C-Class Coupes

The 2012 C-Class Coupe line-up features three desirable choices: C250, C350, and powerful C63 AMG.

C250

The C250 Coupe (MSRP $37,220) is powered by a turbocharged 1.8-liter inline four-cylinder engine that has 201 hp and 229 lb/ft of torque.  Mercedes-Benz engineers have ensured that with two internal balance shafts, the turbocharger will have the power, smoothness and speed of a six-cylinder.  The C250 goes from zero-to-60 mph in a quick 7.1 seconds and gets a respectable EPA-estimated 31 mpg on the highway.  A versatile and responsive seven-speed automatic transmission is standard in both the C250 and C350 coupes. This seven-speed features two overdrive ratios, for improved fuel economy, adaptive shift logic that adjusts to your driving style, and Touch Shift manual shift control.

C350

In the C350 Coupe (MSRP $42,370), a 3.5-liter V6 with 302 hp and 273 lb/ft of torque delivers zero-to-60 mph in 5.9 seconds.  The V6 engine has 13 percent more power output over the outgoing year and offers and EPA-estimated 28 mpg on the highway.  The engine features a new 60-degree block angle, along with aluminum cylinder heads and pistons, and cast-in Silitec cylinder liners for reduced friction. The crankshaft, connecting rods and valves are made of special forged steel to reduce weight and improve engine performance.

The C350 Coupe offers available 4MATIC All-Wheel Drive, for enhanced handling and confidence in all driving conditions.

C63 AMG

The exhilarating C63 AMG Coupe (MSRP $61,430) is equipped with a normally aspirated 6.3-liter V8 packing an impressive 451 hp with 443 lb/ft of torque.  The engine features four valves per cylinder, and it was the first engine developed entirely by the Mercedes-Benz high-performance AMG division.  The sound of the engine will be heard through a magnesium two-stage resonance intake manifold. The V8’s blistering acceleration – zero-to-60 mph in just 4.3 seconds – will get your adrenaline going.

What also sets the C63 AMG Coupe apart is its high-performance and cutting-edge AMG seven-speed SPEEDSHIFT MCT (multi-clutch transmission), which provides the driver with the direct feedback of a manual along with the ease of an automatic, speeding up shift times.

The C63 AMG Coupe sits on 18-inch AMG twin five-spoke wheels, giving it a more aggressive stance, and features a carbon-fiber spoiler.  Inside, drivers will find AMG sport seats, an AMG performance steering wheel and other AMG touches.

An available AMG Development Package increases the power from 451 hp to 481 hp and increases the speed limiter to 174 mph.  This package is ideal for drivers who are looking to compete on the race track.

For the ultimate in C-Class Coupe performance, serious driving enthusiasts should consider the C63 AMG Black Series Coupe, which packs 510 hp and 457 lb/ft of torque from a 6.3-liter V8.  Several engine components are from the SLS AMG, giving the C63 Black Series zero-to-60 mph acceleration of just 4.2 seconds.  The Black Series sits on 19-inch AMG alloys and has numerous upgrades to vehicle systems such as brakes, suspension and axles.  Distinctive yet subtle “Black Series” lettering can be found, as well.

Safety Features

The 2012 C-Class Coupe line features numerous Mercedes-Benz lifesaving safety systems.

The innovative ATTENTION ASSIST can alert a driver who starts to get drowsy behind the wheel.  The system employs a variety of sensors to monitor driver and vehicle behavior and movement, and can sense erratic steering movements. It will trigger an audible warning and a "Time for a Rest?" display message, with a coffee cup icon appearing in the instrument cluster.

Strong four-wheel disc brakes are just one component of the advanced braking technology in the C-Class Coupe. Hill-Start Assist prevents roll-back when starting on an incline by holding brake pedal pressure long enough for you to begin accelerating, and the system also works on flat roads when required.  In wet conditions, Automatic Brake Drying automatically applies the brakes, every few seconds, just enough to make sure the brake discs are free of water, ensuring effective brake performance. If you suddenly take your foot off the accelerator, Predictive Brake Priming sets the brake pads closer to the discs for faster response when you hit the brake pedal.

In addition, the C-Class Coupe features anti-lock brakes with Brake Assist, traction control, and the Mercedes-Benz Electronic Stability Program (ESP®). The C-Class Sedan has two-stage front airbags, a knee airbag for the driver, and pelvic airbags that work together with curtain and side airbags to provide extra protection for front occupants in dangerous side-impact collisions, plus the standard rear side airbags.

Advanced optional technologies such as the ultrasonic-based Blind Spot Assist, the camera-based Lane Keeping Assist, and the Adaptive Highbeam Assist provide additional levels of safety.

An Agile C-Class
All C-Class models feature the AGILITY CONTROL suspension, which provides the benefits of both soft and stiff shock absorbers. Each twin-tube shock absorber is fitted with a hydraulic by-pass piston that acts like a very soft shock absorber to dampen road noise and tire vibration. However, over bumpy or uneven roads, the by-pass piston turns off, preserving the exceptional steering and handling of a more sporty and stiff shock absorber.

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe will appeal to the most discerning buyer with an eye for style, quality, and safety. For more information and to schedule a test drive, please contact us.
