The C-Class Coupes
The 2012 C-Class Coupe line-up features three desirable choices: C250, C350, and powerful C63 AMG.
C250
The C250 Coupe (MSRP $37,220) is powered by a turbocharged 1.8-liter inline four-cylinder engine that has 201 hp and 229 lb/ft of torque. Mercedes-Benz engineers have ensured that with two internal balance shafts, the turbocharger will have the power, smoothness and speed of a six-cylinder. The C250 goes from zero-to-60 mph in a quick 7.1 seconds and gets a respectable EPA-estimated 31 mpg on the highway. A versatile and responsive seven-speed automatic transmission is standard in both the C250 and C350 coupes. This seven-speed features two overdrive ratios, for improved fuel economy, adaptive shift logic that adjusts to your driving style, and Touch Shift manual shift control.
C350
In the C350 Coupe (MSRP $42,370), a 3.5-liter V6 with 302 hp and 273 lb/ft of torque delivers zero-to-60 mph in 5.9 seconds. The V6 engine has 13 percent more power output over the outgoing year and offers and EPA-estimated 28 mpg on the highway. The engine features a new 60-degree block angle, along with aluminum cylinder heads and pistons, and cast-in Silitec cylinder liners for reduced friction. The crankshaft, connecting rods and valves are made of special forged steel to reduce weight and improve engine performance.
The C350 Coupe offers available 4MATIC
™ All-Wheel Drive, for enhanced handling and confidence in all driving conditions.
C63 AMG
The exhilarating C63 AMG Coupe (MSRP $61,430) is equipped with a normally aspirated 6.3-liter V8 packing an impressive 451 hp with 443 lb/ft of torque. The engine features four valves per cylinder, and it was the first engine developed entirely by the Mercedes-Benz high-performance AMG division. The sound of the engine will be heard through a magnesium two-stage resonance intake manifold. The V8’s blistering acceleration – zero-to-60 mph in just 4.3 seconds – will get your adrenaline going.
What also sets the C63 AMG Coupe apart is its high-performance and cutting-edge AMG seven-speed SPEEDSHIFT MCT (multi-clutch transmission), which provides the driver with the direct feedback of a manual along with the ease of an automatic, speeding up shift times.
The C63 AMG Coupe sits on 18-inch AMG twin five-spoke wheels, giving it a more aggressive stance, and features a carbon-fiber spoiler. Inside, drivers will find AMG sport seats, an AMG performance steering wheel and other AMG touches.
An available AMG Development Package increases the power from 451 hp to 481 hp and increases the speed limiter to 174 mph. This package is ideal for drivers who are looking to compete on the race track.
For the ultimate in C-Class Coupe performance, serious driving enthusiasts should consider the C63 AMG Black Series Coupe, which packs 510 hp and 457 lb/ft of torque from a 6.3-liter V8. Several engine components are from the SLS AMG, giving the C63 Black Series zero-to-60 mph acceleration of just 4.2 seconds. The Black Series sits on 19-inch AMG alloys and has numerous upgrades to vehicle systems such as brakes, suspension and axles. Distinctive yet subtle “Black Series” lettering can be found, as well.
