Double Win for Kabush at 1st round of NORBA
The NORBA kick-off was twice as nice for Team Maxxis rider Geoff Kabush, who chalked up victories in both short track and cross country at the opening round of the series. The races were held May 6-7 in Fontana, California.

Part of the lead group from the first lap of the cross country race, Kabush bided his time through most of the course. The 2005 NORBA champion took a decisive lead when two riders ahead of him collided and crashed.

Fraser Wins Overall & 3 Stages of Joe Martin
Health Net presented by Maxxis swept the Joe Martin Stage Race: Gord Fraser took the overall title and wins in three stages, while Scott Moninger took the victory in the time trial. The race was held May 12-14 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Fraser won the fourth and final stage in 1.31.08, bringing his total time in the final general classification to 9.34.23. Having held the lead throughout the race with help from his teammates, particularly Nathan O’Neill, Fraser was jubilant in comments to cyclingnews.com: “The morale is getting very good obviously. As you win, the more it compounds…I was pretty much surrounded in the final sprint, but I found a hole and jumped at the right time. It was a nice way to repay the guys."

Wheels Magazine: MA-Z1 Best in Wet Cornering, 3rd Overall for 2nd Straight Year
For the second year in a row, Maxxis’ MA-Z1 Victra has been recognized by Australia’s Wheels magazine. In Wheels’ tests, the ultra high performance radial was rated best in wet cornering and ranked second in wet braking. The MA-Z1 took third place in the publication’s overall ranking, coming out ahead of several well-known premium brand tires. The results were published in Wheels’ May 2006 issue.

The magazine noted that if wet performance is a priority, consumers would do well to look at the MA-Z1, calling it an “extremely capable” wet weather tire. Peter McKay, who drove the control vehicle for the tests, praised the MA-Z1’s “exceptional wet-surface grip, with nice stability in cornering and braking.”

Formula D: Jasper Performance 6th at Round 2
Maxxis might be new to the world of drifting, but you’d never know it from the results of their sponsored teams: Driving a Supra outfitted with the MA-Z1 Victra, Jasper Performance’s Conrad Grunewald took sixth place at Round 2 of the Formula D series. The contest was held May 11-13 at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia.

Grunewald posted one of the fastest entry times of the race weekend, and maintained great speed and angle throughout the competition. Qualifying third out of 32 in Friday’s event, he went on to sixth seed in the finals the next evening. Grunewald was pleased with both his results and his MA-Z1’s, praising their incredible grip.
