Off-road racing in the California desert is always a challenge, but some drivers enjoy a distinct advantage: As the 2005 MDR series ended, racers who chose Maxxis Bighorns found themselves in some of the top spots in the overall standings.

The champions of four classes rode Maxxis’ products throughout the season: Matt Towery, Class 8; Dave Wood, Class 10; Terry Ingold, Class 1300; and Frank Vernola, Class 1450.

In a move to support its network of distributors and increase brand awareness among consumers in the UK, Maxxis has signed a major sponsorship deal with soccer team Aston Villa for the remainder of the 2005/2006 season.

Under the terms of the sponsorship deal, Maxxis is an Official Partner of the Aston Villa Football Club. The company will have the benefit of extensive perimeter advertising at Villa Park, the team’s home venue, as well as corporate hospitality facilities: Large banners around the field will sport the Maxxis logo, with a maximum of 196 feet visible at any one time.

It’s official: Racing fans can let their pulses return to normal – at least until next year. The West Coast Vintage Dirt Track Series has wrapped up another thrilling season of motorcycle action. Promoter Eddie Mulder’s eight-race series, which featured events in Nevada and Washington as well as California, ended October 23.

One of the younger racers offered some of the best action in the series, holding his own against GNC pros: Racing as an amateur because of his age, 15-year-old Stevie Bonsey won the AMA Horizon Award.
