Dustin Gibson has been setting the GNCC motorcycle series on fire with his performances in the XC2 Pro Lite class. The Tennessee native achieved his best finish ever earlier this month, taking first place in his class and fifth overall at the GNCC Mountain Ridge. The race was held September 1-2 in Somerset, Pennsylvania.
Gibson, who rides for Team KTM / PowersportGrafx, said he had been confident that 2007 would be a good year for him. “I thought that I had the speed to run up front,” he said. Gibson’s trust in his Maxxcross SIs has also paid off: “They’re great. That’s all I ever run. Whether it’s dry, muddy or sandy, I run them everywhere.”
Team manager Bart Hayes is thrilled with Gibson’s performance and those of his fellow KTM riders. “We knew that our team would do good, but we didn’t quite expect to have the level of success that we’ve had. We actually wrapped up two national championships at the Pennsylvania round. Caleb Russell took the 200A national championship and Jordan Ashburn took the national championship in 250B. I’m real happy for the kids. They’re doing a good job…Jason Gilliland has been riding injured for the whole year and got his best finish of the year in Pennsylvania, which was ninth in XC1,” Hayes told Maxxis.
For the remainder of the season, the team will concentrate on helping Gibson move ahead in the points race, a goal that Gibson shares. “I just want to be on the podium and do well overall. I just want to beat the next two guys in front of me and end up 12th overall,” Gibson said.
Maxxis congratulates Dustin Gibson, Caleb Russell, Jordan Ashburn and Jason Gilliland on their fine performances and wishes them the best in their upcoming races.
