Maxxis has swept the overall top three of the Maxxis XRRA series in the Eastern Division. Rusty Bray grabbed the top spot, with Eric Childress in second place and Brian Shirley rounding out the top three.
The three drivers clinched their titles with strong performances at the last event of the regular season, held August 18 in Badlands, Indiana. According to Bray, who finished sixth in the Badlands event, his overall victory was anything but a foregone conclusion: “We come from a rock crawling background, so the rock racing was all new to us. We didn’t know how we’d do with the speed versus the rocks. I ran Trepadors until this last event, when I needed a little more height. I ran the 40” Creepy Crawlers this last time. They were good. This weekend was kind of our first time to deal with sand, but the Creepy Crawler worked well with the sand, dirt, rocks and the whole array of terrain.”
Bray believes that his relationship with Maxxis has been a key element in his performance this year. “The success of our team in 2007 is due to an outstanding product and support from the team at Maxxis. Rock racing and rock crawling demand a superior tire in strength and tread design, and the Maxxis Trepador and Creepy Crawler have provided both,” he said.
Like Bray, Childress was pleased with the performance of his Creepy Crawlers. “They were dependable,” he told Maxxis. “They have a new compound for this year, and they really did good.”
Shirley, who also ran Creepy Crawlers, singled out this rugged tire’s sidewalls for praise: “I really like the sidewall; they’re great. You invest a lot of money getting to an event, and you hate to have something as simple as cutting a sidewall take you out of a race. The sticky compound really performs great, too.”
XRRA President Jodi Weaver lauded Maxxis’ support as title sponsor of the series: “As with the past three Maxxis Xtreme Rock Races in the East, the drivers, teams and fans continue to grow in numbers. With 25 teams competing in the Eastern Division Final, the competition was fierce, and the action had you hanging on the edge of your seat. Thanks to Maxxis' unparalleled support and commitment to the growth of the Eastern Division, the exposure this sport has received during the 2007 season has greatly surpassed our expectations."
Bray, Childress and Shirley will next compete in the Maxxis XRRA US Finals, scheduled for September 29 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Maxxis is pleased to congratulate Rusty Bray, Eric Childress and Brian Shirley for their fine performances throughout the season.
