The season’s barely begun, but Maxxis is already controlling the podium in key ATV and motorcycle series.
-In a follow-up to last year’s Baja 1000 victory, the team of Danny Prather, Mike Cafro, Levi Marana, and Marc Spaeth won the Baja 250 in 4:31:54. The all-Maxxis podium also included Wayne Matlock and Chad Prull in second place and Jeff Hancock and Joshua Edwards in third. The race was held March 9-11, with a route stretching from Ensenada to Santo Tomas, Mexico.
-At press time, Maxxis’ riders held seven of the top ten overall spots in the GNCC ATV series. Seven-time champ Bill Ballance holds the lead, with the other half of the Killer B’s, Chris Borich, in second place overall. Maxxis’ Taylor Kiser holds third place, with seventh through tenth place held by, in order, Brandon Sommers, Chris Jenks, Brandon Ballance, and Matt Smiley.
-Bill Ballance won the season’s first two GNCC ATV races, the Triton and the Maxxis General, while Borich took the victory at Steele Creek, the third race in the series. Hot on the heels of the Killer B’s were some of Maxxis’ other top ATV riders: Maxxis took six of the top seven spots at the Triton, eight of the top eleven at the Maxxis General, and ten of the top 14 at Steele Creek.
-At the GNC ATVA MX series opener in Pell City, Alabama, Maxxis riders, led by privateer Jeremy Lawson, captured the top nine spots in the Pro class. Round 2, held March 24-25 in San Bernardino, California, saw four of the top six pro finishers on Maxxis tires.
-Riding Maxxcross SM’s front and rear, Shane Watts took the victory at the opening round of the GNCC motorcycle series, held March 6 in Vero Beach, Florida. Watts, a past GNCC champion, held the lead throughout much of the race in what fullnoise.com called “a dominant performance.”
