Melanie McQuaid has won her third Xterra World Championship, a feat unequalled by any other racer. McQuaid’s record-setting title came with her victory in the Nissan Xterra World Championships in Makena, Hawaii, held October 29.
With a final time of 3:07:53, McQuaid’s win was the high point of what Xterraplanet.com called “a stellar season.” Her triumph at Makena was well-earned, as she noted on her website: “Epic, brutal, unforgiving and ‘not fit for man or beast’ are some of the descriptions of this race. Never has this race ever been longer or harder than this year, and I am absolutely stunned to have had the race I did on Sunday. I think I had wings…I was nervous of the uncontrollable situations like mechanicals or crashes, but the brand-new 2007 XTR group, the brand-new Maxxis Larsen TT on a brand-new Orbea Alma, with all brand-new Titec and Fizik magic was not to be messed with.”
In other good news for Maxxis, Danelle Kabush, sister of Team Maxxis’ Geoff, took the second spot on the women’s podium at Makena.
Xterra is an off-road triathlon series, with each event requiring a 1K swim, 27K mountain bike race, and a 10K trail run. McQuaid has competed in the series since 2001 and won championships in 2003 and 2005.
Maxxis is proud to sponsor three-time Xterra World Champion Melanie McQuaid and congratulates her on her victory, and thanks Danelle Kabush for her fine performance.
