UROC ProNationals: From East to West, Maxxis Is Best
Maxxis is riding high in the world of rock crawling: Teams sponsored by the company came out on top at both kick-off events for the UROC ProNationals series. At the first ProNationals Atlantic event, Maxxis driver Danny Rohrer, along with spotter Chad Rolfert, took first place in the modified class. And at the opening ProNationals Pacific event, Bruce Zeller and George Poston won the super modified class, while Marty Hart and Jeff Jones took second place. The Atlantic event was held April 29-30 in Jellico, Tennessee, while the Pacific contest was held May 11-13 at the Firebird Raceway in Phoenix, Arizona.
Rohrer and Rolfert rode their Maxxis Trepadors to victory in front of a crowd estimated at 10,000. Rohrer has nothing but praise for the Trepador: “They’re awesome. They’re the best tire on the market right now. I consider them as close to indestructible as you can get.” He also credits Rolfert’s invaluable contribution to this weekend’s win: “The help he gives me navigating through some of the obstacles is just unbelievable.” In his fourth year as a professional rock crawler, Rohrer also appreciates the sense of comradeship he feels with other teams. “It’s really great to be a part of a sport where you can get along with everybody in it,” he told Maxxis.
Other Maxxis teams also took podiums at the Atlantic event. Drew Goldie and Eric Bickard took third place in the modified class, while Jessie Haines and Brian Howard nabbed the second place spot in the super modified class. Both Goldie and Haines are in their first year as Maxxis-sponsored drivers.
Running Creepy Crawlers, both Zeller and Hart were pleased with their results. Zeller says the win vindicates his team’s switch to Maxxis this year: “We feel great. We were a little leery, but now that we’ve got the one win, we feel a little better.” He also gives credit for the victory to his spotter. “I wouldn’t want to do it without George. We make a real good team, and Maxxis kind of rounds out the whole deal.”
Hart also praises his spotter. “Spotters are huge, especially nowadays,” he said. “We kind of communicate real well.” The Creepy Crawlers, he said, “were awesome. Just to have the backing from Maxxis and their enthusiasm about developing tires for winning…They want feedback. To me that says they are really interested in improving their products for competition and for their customers. They’re in racing for a reason. They’re not just putting their name out there; they want to actually improve their products. This was our first ProNational event out west, and our second event on Maxxis tires, and to be able to compete on those manmade courses and having Maxxis finish one-two was a real highlight.”
