Maxxis Strong Presence at 2006 Ford Tour de Georgia
Maxxis was everywhere at the 2006 Ford Tour de Georgia, held April 18-23. The internationally renowned race had everything for the serious racing fan: world-class UCI Pro cyclists; a route that showcased the South’s natural beauty in spring – and Maxxis as a sponsor.

The Maxxis Sprint Leader Jersey was awarded to Fred Rodriguez of Davitamon-Lotto. A sponsor since the inception of the internationally renowned race four years ago, Maxxis also once again offered Maxxis Madness, the Team DK stunt show that dazzled spectators at the finish line of each stage, and the Maxxis Feed Zone, where riders slowed to get the food that sustained them through the day’s race. Maxxis also served as the official tire of the Tour.

Maxxis-sponsored teams competing included Health Net presented by Maxxis, Jittery Joe’s Zero Gravity, and Colavita Sutter Homes. Gord Fraser of Health Net/Maxxis took second place in the final stage.

The race this year ventured outside Georgia for the first time, with a time trial in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Ten Georgia cities served as hosts for the six-stage contest. And as in previous years, hundreds of thousands of spectators turned out for the top pro cycling event in North America.

Proceeds from the Tour benefit the Georgia Cancer Coalition, a network of organizations and individuals who work together to fight cancer.

“The Tour de Georgia is the most anticipated race of the year at Maxxis. Although Maxxis sponsors countless races, and we continuously live vicariously through our sponsored athletes, Georgia is special. It captures the beauty and emotion of our great home state, showcasing it through the lens of an intense weeklong competition. The Tour de Georgia has earned its reputation as the best stage race in North America,” commented Bicycle Marketing Coordinator Brad Klipping.
