He’s one half of what gnccracing.com calls the “Killer B’s” (the other being legendary champ Bill Ballance). At just 23, Chris Borich has established himself in the top ranks of GNCC ATV racers, racking up three victories in 2005 alone: the Lone Star, the Orange Crush and the Big Buck.
And while some riders who’ve suffered a broken collarbone might take advantage of the summer break to relax, Borich is determined not to let an injury slow him down. Proving he’s a tough contender, he’s continued to train and race after his mishap at the Wisp in late June. “After about two weeks, I got on the bike and rode. Then I did a six-hour race, and I’ve been hitting as many local races as I can,” Borich told MaxxDaddy.
Borich, who started competing on dirt bikes at age 15, says his love of racing came naturally: “We’ve always been around racing. My dad used to race sprint cars for 16 years.” And GNCC events are still family affairs for Borich. Ask him to name his favorite aspect of racing, and he’ll say “Just being around my family. I enjoy just going there with my family and having a good time.” Borich also spends time with close relatives at his full-time job, working at their car crushing and junkyard business when not training and racing.
He’s come to rely on Maxxis’ Razr line of tires for both competition and practice. “I use the Razr2 in front and the regular Razr in the rear. The front tires are just awesome for cornering wherever you point the bike. The rear tires give a little bit, and the forward drive out of the corner is just awesome.” On muddy tracks, Borich uses the iRazr in the rear.
A native of Pennsylvania, Borich has lived there all of his life. His current objectives are clear and centered on GNCC racing. “My goal is to win the championship and hopefully get picked up by a factory,” allowing him to do what he loves full-time.
The GNCC summer break ends September 10-11 with the Spartan in Sparta, Kentucky. Borich plans to be there, ready for action – something ATV fans everywhere can eagerly anticipate.
