It’s easy to see why spectators love off-road racing. But something special is required to motivate the drivers who spend large chunks of time competing on the pro circuit.
What whets Randy Eller’s appetite for competition? “The start is probably the biggest rush of the race. They line everybody up and you shoot for the corner at about 100 miles per hour.”
Eller, a member of the Maxxis-sponsored Championship Motorsports off-road team, says that he always enjoys the beginning of a race, but for Eller, all of CORR’s Round 6 was memorable. Eller took second place at the event, held June 26 in Crandon, Wisconsin. 50,000 cheering fans watched Eller compete in his Pro-Lite Chevy S10, riding on Maxxis’ Bighorns and Buckshot Mudders. The event will be televised on cable’s Speed Channel.
Eller believes that Maxxis products gave him an advantage in the race: “We definitely got a nice holeshot,” he commented afterward. He held the lead from the second through the seventh laps and maintained a strong second-place position through the rest of the race. Eller is in fifth place overall for the series, with 58 points. A veteran racer with more than 20 years of off-road experience, he received a contingency from Maxxis for his performance.
Maxxis is rapidly becoming a serious presence in the off-road market. Expanding its involvement, the company announced its sponsorship of Championship Motorsports, as well as a contingency program for CORR, earlier this year.
