It had humble beginnings, starting with small events held on private property in the middle of the desert. But it offered heart-stopping thrills, along with a unique spectacle: that of vehicles seeming to defy gravity as they climbed huge rocks, navigated by teams whose timing and nerve could be nothing less than perfect. Maxxis was a sponsor from the start, offering crucial support every step of the way. And increasing numbers of drivers, spotters, and spectators decided they wanted to join the fun.
Just three years after its modest debut, the United Rockcrawling and Off-Road Challenge is the largest rock crawling series in the world, attracting huge crowds in metro areas such as Phoenix and Las Vegas (the site of this year’s UROC World Championship Supercrawl). With many events covered by cable television’s ESPN2, the series continues to gain popularity at an astonishing rate. Maxxis’ support continues to grow as well, as this year the company’s sponsorship encompasses all UROC events: the Pro Nationals, the Extreme East and West, and the SuperCrawl National Championships.
But Maxxis’ backing of UROC has never been limited to events: beginning with just two teams, the company’s sponsorship roster for the series has grown to include nearly 20. (Creighton King, now the driver of the Maxxis auto support rig, was one of our first sponsored rock crawlers.)
Those relationships with sponsored teams have had multiple benefits, allowing Maxxis to offer specialized products for extreme off-road driving. With its clawlike traction, the rugged Creepy Crawler has long been a favorite of rock crawlers. And feedback from UROC’s drivers was instrumental in the development of the Trepador, Maxxis’ soon-to-be-released extreme off-road tire.
Maxxis is proud to support UROC, its teams, and its many fans. For more information on UROC, visit www.uroc.com. For more information on the Creepy Crawler and the Trepador, visit www.maxxis.com.
