Maxxis U.S. Open Draws Biggest TV Audience in U.S. Open History
Earning such high ratings that NBC was compelled to schedule a second airing, the 2004 Maxxis U.S. Open was a huge success. Called “one of the most-watched motorcycle off-road races ever” by ussx.com, the original broadcast earned a 2.1 overnight Nielsen rating – the highest rating in the history of the U.S. Open.
The races were held in Las Vegas, Nevada, October 26 at the MGM Grand. More than 20,000 spectators saw Chad Reed repeat his triumph of 2003, taking the championship for the second straight year. Nick Wey and Mike LaRocco finished in second and third place, respectively. Greg Schnell won the Pro Circuit 125cc main event, with Troy Adams in second place and Thomas Hahn finishing third.
This is Maxxis’ second year as the title sponsor of the U.S. Open. The event is scheduled for re-broadcast on December 12 at 2:30 p.m. EST on NBC.
