For the racer who’s called 2004’s “Rookie of the Year,” getting involved in ATV events was a matter of luck and location.
In his native North Carolina, Bryan Cook lived close to GNCC racer Santo DeRisi, watching him race and eventually riding with him. It was DeRisi who convinced Cook to give the sport a try on his own – and at age 24, Cook is having quite a year.
Four years after his racing debut – and just one year after moving from the A Class to the Pro Class – Cook placed sixth on the 2004 GNCC rankings. He calls his Four Stroke A Class championship in 2003 the highlight of his career to date, along with his performance this year at Petersburg, Virginia.
But as much as the professional triumphs, Cook enjoys becoming close to the people he sees almost weekly at races. “You meet people from all over,” he says, adding that racing is a family sport, and those involved become like a family. His own mother, father, and grandfather attend all of his events.
Cook says that he appreciates the support that Maxxis gives to ATV racing, and never has any problems with his Razr tires: he uses the Razr2 on the front and the Razr on the rear. Toward the end of this year, he also rode the new iRazr, pleased because it “hooks up well in muddy conditions.”
In 2005, Cook is determined to break into the GNCC Top Five – and with his record of success so far, a place among ATV racing’s top performers should be no problem at all.
