A Slinky or a yoyo might be a small present to a privileged child – but to a youngster who is often denied necessities, much less luxuries, such a gift can mean everything. Maxxis employees have this year donated shoe boxes full of small treasures to Operation Christmas Child, which distributes them all over the world.
In countries such as Guatemala, Rwanda, Tajikistan, and Latvia – 120 in all - Operation Christmas Child has distributed gifts since 1993. Through the annual project, millions of needy children every year receive what for them are incredible gifts – items like soap, toys, school supplies, and socks – carefully selected and packed in a shoe box by someone they’ve never met. In 2003, more than 6.5 million boxes were delivered by Samaritan’s Purse, the organization which coordinates the project.
Maxxis strives to be a good corporate citizen, in the past sponsoring canned food drives and blood drives to benefit their community. The company this year also sponsored a fundraiser for the Dream House for Medically Fragile Children, located in Georgia.
“We’re delighted to help with such a worthy cause. There is no better way to celebrate the holidays than with a project like this,” said Human Resource Manager Kellie Carter. For more information on Operation Christmas Child and Samaritan’s Purse, visit samaritanspurse.org.
