SPECTRUMS is due for a staff change
Volunteers sought for e-newsletter

Five issues after the debut of the MassWIT e-newsletter, SPECTRUMS, the editor and graphic designer will retire from the editorial staff. New volunteers are sought to take the newsletter to the next level - more news pertinent to the MassWIT members, published reader feedback, from bimonthly to monthly issue and increased circulation.

The two jobs will be available for volunteers to step into after the June issue is out, the first week of that month.

The job of editor requires ferreting talents to find columnists and story writers one issue ahead. An eye for protocols, grammar, punctuation and style is mandatory. Previous editing experience is necessary for keeping sanity. A wordsmith with good communications skills will love this job.

The job of designer requires heavy HTML experience - this is not a learn-as-you-go job. Experience with Photoshop or a similar image editor is a must for photo placement.

The software used for page layout and distribution is iMakeNews, an on-line service and current sponsor of MassWIT, so previous experience with it or knowing or how to dial the 800-number support line a lot (and drive those wonderful guys crazy) is critical. This software is friendly and you can learn as you go - the learning curve on iMakeNews is forgiving.

The editor and graphic designer work very closely together on each issue, especially the week before release, so being local to one another helps. Once the routine is set, spending four to five hours an issue can be expected. Plan on more time than that for the ramp-up.

If either job sounds like your cup of tea, contact Suzanne Zellner, MassWIT executive director, at Szellner@attbi.com, to communicate your interest.
