Catch Spring Fever!
We have a fever… and the only prescription is more fun!

Everywhere you go, the signs are clear – Spring is here. Say so long to those winter blues and get ready for sunny days that make you never want to go indoors. We’re kicking things off with some cool events. Whether it’s celebrating cows and blueberries or rocking out to the hottest music acts, there’s plenty going on.

This is the one day that you cannot miss! It’s the oldest and biggest one-day event in the country, so get mooo’ving to the Walthall Country Dairy Festival. The festival started as a way for dairymen to thank the community. Today, this event attracts thousands of visitors to its non-stop activities. So what’s happening? There’s the Dairy Festival Queen pageant, baby contests, mooing contests, arts and crafts and plenty of food. Of course, there will be milk and ice cream – all free – courtesy of Walthall dairy farmers. Feeling competitive? Take part in the festival turtle races, butter churning contests and sack races! The festival will feature live music throughout the day, slowing down at night for a giant fireworks display. This year’s Dairy Festival is Saturday, June 6 at the Holmes Water Park, 69 Highway 198, Tylertown, Mississippi. For more information, visit www.walthallchamber.com/dairyfest.html.

Who knew that fun could be so blue? There’s no better way to spend a great day than at the Blueberry Jubilee. Expect plenty of fun and excitement – from bluegrass music and storytelling to the 5K run and arts and crafts. For the kids, there’s the bubble gum blowing contest, hula-hoop contests and even a baby crawl for the little tykes! Don’t forget to check out (or enter) the Poplarville Classic Car Club Open Car Show. The Blueberry Jubilee takes place on Saturday, June 13 in downtown Poplarville, Mississippi. For more information, visit www.blueberryjubilee.org.

We promise this is one of the coolest events happening this spring! RiverFest has it all – great music, arts and crafts, food and lots of fun! Set to perform this year: Bret Michaels (from the band Poison and the VH1 show Rock of Love), Little Big Town, Josh Gracin and the Marshall Tucker Band. For the kids, there are games and giant inflatables. This year’s RiverFest takes place Friday, June 12 starting at 4:00 P.M. and Saturday, June 13 starting at 1:00 P.M. on Highway 411 in Gadsden, Alabama. For more information, visit www.gadsdenriverfest.com.

Get your kilt and bagpipes ready! It’s time for the North Alabama Scottish Festival and Highland Games! Celebrate the heritage and culture of the Scottish highlands with bagpipes and drums, Highland and Scottish dancers, storytelling, music, Border Collie sheep-herding demonstrations and Scottish cow “Coos.” There are special children’s events including a pet parade! The highland games competitions and demonstrations include the hammer toss, caber toss, sheaf toss, clachneart (“stone of strength”), 28- and 56-pound weights for height, and 28- and 56-pound weights for distance. The Scottish Festival and Highland Games will be held Friday, June 19 through Sunday, June 21 at the Goose Pond Colony Resort in Scottsboro, Alabama. For more information, visit www.tennesseevalleyscottishsociety.org.
