Chevron and CITGO Say No to dexos1™ Licensing

Chevron announced last week it will not license its Havoline® and Supreme® motor oils under the dexos 1™ trademark, stating, though, a reformulated Havoline and Chevron Supreme product will be introduced that will meet the performance requirements of dexos 1™. CITGO also announced late last week they will not officially license dexos 1™, stating that its SUPERGARD Synthetic Motor Oil will be repositioned as dexos 1™ capable.

Transport Topics Issues Latest 100 Largest For-Hire and 100 Largest Private Truck Fleet Lists; Safety-Kleen Makes the List

Transport Topics has just issued its '2010 Transport Topics 100' lists of the 100 largest for-hire trucking fleets (companies such as UPS, FedEx, DHL USA, YRC Worldwide and Ryder Systems) and the 100 largest private trucking fleets (companies such as Pepsico, Coca-Cola Enterprises, Sysco Systems, Wal-Mart and US Foodservice). Safety-Kleen came in at No. 98 on the private carrier list.

B.K.L. Opens Lube Blending Plant in Vietnam

B.K.L Company Limited. has opened a US$1.3 million lubricant blending plant in the Mekong Delta province of Long An, Vietnam, with a target of acquiring 5% to 10% of the lubricant market share in Vietnam. The company will supply the market with its Yuki-branded automotive lubricants, as well as industrial processing oils.

Asia Pacific Base Oil Market Report

In general, the Asia Pacific base oil market once again has not moved and the prices were traded within previous trading ranges. Fundamentally, the supply situation is improving in the South East Asia market. In North East Asia, though, Taiwan’s Formosa Group II refinery is now expected to be on-stream by end of this month, after targeting a 15-20 September restart previously.

Eastern Hemisphere Lube Base Oil Price Report

The price of light sweet crude oil traded in a range of US$73-78 per barrel last week, closing at US$73.54 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange last Friday. Eastern hemisphere lube base oil prices for recent shipments have increased since our last report with a relatively significant increase in base oil prices ex-Iran. Prices have started to rise again, reflecting a tightened supply/demand scenario.
